Frösängskapellet, the Frösäng chapel

The building Kapellet, the chapel, has a functionalist character and a rectangular, cubic shape. The façade is fronted by limestone discs which are retrieved from Sjösa north east of Nyköping. A large extension angled to the building is designed by the architect Rolf Bergh and yet another extension was made in 2004 after a design by the construction engineer P O Gustavsson. The interior Den stora altartavlan, the Great altarpiece, in the chapel’s ceremonial room is painted by the artist Nils Nilsson and was donated by Oxelösund’s ironworks when the chapel was built. The motive is Christ’s resurrection, and to give the painting a local connection, the artist added a fishing net and a sledgehammer in the hand of one of the men in the painting. The use of the chapel is firstly for funerals, about 120 a year, but during summer it is also used for "helgmålsbön and the musical performance “Musik I sommarkväll.
